SRINAGAR: A grenade explosion outside a village mosque in Jammu & Kashmir wounded 10 worshippers on Thursday in the first such incident in 14 years and police detected another explosive near a Hizbul Mujahideen militant’s home.
I t was unclear who was behind the blast because attacks at mosques are rare in Muslimmajority Kashmir, which has been fighting Pakistansponsored militancy since 1989.
The attack came amid spiraling violence tied to militancy and heightened security in Kashmir ahead of Independence Day celebrations, which usually see protests in the state.
The grenade tore through the mosque complex in Trenz village of Shopian district when people were filing out after morning prayers.
