A teacher, who allegedly beat up a 12-year-old Dalit student for taking a plate from a stack reserved for non-Dalits at a government school in Jodhpur, was arrested late Saturday night, police said.
“Hemaram Jat had been picked up for questioning. After investigation, he was found to be guilty and was arrested on Saturday night,” said Narendra Choudhary, Circle Officer of Osian.
On Sunday, the teacher was suspended from his post. “Hemaram was put on Awaiting Posting Order (APO) on Saturday and, following his arrest on Saturday, we suspended him on Sunday,” said Nutan Bala Kapila, Deputy Director, Jodhpur, with the Education Department.
