Student slapped for raising slogans at PM’s BHU event

VARANASI: A student leader was slapped for interrupting PM Narendra Modi’s convocation speech at Banaras Hindu University on Monday. Ashutosh Singh stood up towards the end of Modi’s speech and demanded revival of the student union. Police immediately intervened but another student slapped him twice. VARANASI: A student leader was slapped for interrupting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convocation speech at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Monday, where he exhorted students and researchers to find solutions to problems and challenges.
Ashutosh Singh stood up towards the end of Modi’s speech and demanded revival of the BHU student union.
“The union is defunct since 1997. Students here are not allowed to raise their voice,” he shouted.
Police immediately intervened but another student slapped him twice from behind before Singh was whisked away.
Besides the Prime Minister, Union human resource development minister Smriti Irani, BHU chancellor Karn Singh and vicechancellor GC Tripathi were on the dais when the incident occurred.
