In the sixth incident of sacrilege reported over the past one week, 20 pages of the Sikh holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib, were found torn at Guru Ravidas Gurdwara at Ghawaddi village in Ludhiana’s Dehlon on Sunday.
The police said the incident was reported around 8.30 am by the head granthi (Sikh priest) of gurdwara.
Soon, villagers from Ghawaddi and nearby areas gathered at Dehlon-Sahnewal road and blocked the highway protesting against the incident.
Despite repeated assurances by the police, who asked for at least three days to solve the case, the villagers refused to lift the blockade. Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Narinder Bhargav, who rushed to the spot, also failed to pacify the protesters.
