TENSION prevailed in Shivpuri locality of poll-bound Muzaffarnagar after police arrested a 22-year-old youth for allegedly sodomising and then killing a minor boy of another community who was missing since Friday.
On Sunday, the accused, identified as one Ibrahim, was produced before the court which sent him to judicial custody. The police are conducting raids to trace Ibrahim’s associate who may have helped him, Station House Officer (SHO) of Khatauli police station, Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said.
Police said protesting locals blocked roads leading to the locality and also pelted stones on vehicles parked on the roadside while demanding compensation for the boy’s parents who are daily wage labourers. Local MP and minister of state for agriculture Sanjeev Balyan, too, had reportedly rushed to the village to meet the protesters.
