A youth, who was in love with a Caste Hindu girl, was found dead near a railway track in Omalur in Salem on Thursday morning, triggering allegations that he could have been murdered by the girl’s relatives who were opposed to their relationship.
According to police, Syed Ismail (24), an autorickshaw driver, was in love with a girl, who belonged a dominant Hindu community. He had left home on Thursday morning after receiving a phone call but did not return. Later, his father Syed Sultan received information that Ismail’s body was lying near the railway track, about one km away from their house.
Mr. Sultan alleged that his son could have been murdered by his lover’s relatives as his body bore injuries on the neck and leg.
The Dharmapuri Railway Police sent the body to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The railway police registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of Cr.PC.
Mr.Sultan claimed that three days ago an unidentified gang had intercepted Ismail near Kamalapuram and warned him not to talk with the girl “belonging to their community.”
However, police said they were awaiting the post-mortem report and would proceed against the suspects if it is confirmed that he was murdered.
