A special court on Thursday awarded triple life imprisonment to a convict for the rape of a five-year-old girl in Wadgaon Maval. This is reportedly the first case in the city where a triple life imprisonment has been awarded to a convict.
Police said that the convict identified as Rajesh Natha Chouhan (30) had raped the girl at Sadashiv Mangal Karyalay in Wadgaon Maval on July 7, 2013. The mother of the victim had registered an offence in this case at the Wadgaon Maval police station.
Police said that Chouhan, a resident of Wadgaon Maval, worked as a driver. He was staying in the victim’s neighbourhood. According to police, the victim’s father also worked as a driver in a private firm. Chouhan used to visit the girl’s house sometimes. On the day of the incident, Chouhan took the girl along with him, saying he was going to a nearby shop, but did not return. The girl’s family started searching for her. Later, Chouhan returned home with the girl and then fled from the spot, police said, adding, the girl was crying and blood marks were seen on her. She narrated the incident to her parents who immediately rushed her to a hospital and informed the police. Police then arrested Chouhan on charges of rape of the minor girl.
During the court trial, prosecution lawyer Machhindra Gate examined 13 witnesses in this case. The forensic expert doctor testifying for the case said in this deposition that the crime committed by the abuser was heinous and inhuman.
