A special court Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to a man for raping his daughter in their home in Bandra East in 2013. The court relied on the testimony of the victim, and that of a neighbour who saw the father fleeing from the home and buttoning up his pants on the way.
The crime took place on March 8, 2013 when the girl, 11 then, was alone at home. According to the prosecution, she had asked both her parents if she could play with her older siblings outside, but was denied permission.
She had deposed in the court that at 3.30 pm, she had started watching TV and later went off to sleep after the cable connection was suddenly disconnected. The father, who was 44 years old then, came home in an inebriated state and raped her.
The girl told the court that she pushed him away, causing her neighbour to knock on the door to inquire. Both the girl and the father got dressed, and when the door was opened, the culprit ran out, fastening his pants on the way out, according to the neighbour’s deposition.
