New Delhi:The Delhi Police arrested Yashpal Sharma, one of the three lawyers caught on camera assaulting journalists, JNU students and teachers, on Tuesday night. Sharma presented himself at the Tilak Marg Police station at around 5pm on Tuesday and was arrested late evening the same day. According to a source in the Delhi Police, “After repeated summons, Sharma finally presented himself at the police station. He was arrested late evening and the formalities are ongoing.” It is likely that Sharma, who has been charged with assaulting journalists, JNU students and teachers, will be granted bail.
Sharma’s arrest follows a sting operation that was aired by a leading news channel in which he and another advocate Vikram Chauhan claimed that they had thrashed JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and he wet his pants during the beating. Chauhan, the third advocate implicated in the Patiala House Courts incident has not yet joined the probe.
