Controversy over the usage of ‘Hindu’ or ‘Hindutva’ doesn’t seem to leave Goan shores. Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said many times, some non-Indians use the word Hindu when referring to Indians. In the Gulf countries, even a Muslim from India is called a Hindu, he said on Wednesday in the state assembly.
There was immediate and strong reaction to this statement on social networking sites as netizens pointed out that in the Gulf, Indians are referred to as Hindis and not Hindus. Some said the Arabic word for Indian was Hindi, hence Indians were so called there.
