Five Muslim scholars from M’rashtra attacked on UP train

Kandhla town in Shamli district saw rowdy crowds take to the streets on Saturday resorting to violence to protest against the alleged assault of five Muslim scholars from Maharashtra, who were purportedly beaten up by miscreants in a train on Friday night.
Protesters blocked road and rail transport and also roughed up policemen. According to reports, almost 16 police personnel were injured. Sources said tensions started to simmer on Friday night, when reports came in about the assault. The victims, who were onboard a train bound for Saharanpur, were allegedly beaten up at Baraut railway station. After reaching Kandhla, an FIR and a medical examination of the victims was conducted.On Saturday , SP MLA from Kairana Nahid Hasan, along with locals, blocked transport to protest against the incident. Hasan told TOI that they were protesting peacefully but a few miscreants threw stones at the police. In retaliation, the police resorted to the use of lathi is in addition to opening fire, he added.
