Gujarat government promoted 1999 batch IPS officer Abhay Chudasama, who is an accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, to the rank of a deputy inspector general of police (DIG) on Monday. Chudasama currently serves as SP in the State Monitoring Cell in Gandhinagar. He was reinstated in service by the Gujarat government in August 2014, after he was granted bail by the Bombay HC in April 2014.
