The usually bustling temple town of Somnath remained tense on Tuesday after heavy rioting broke out between members of two communities in Prabhas Patan, some two kilometres away .
Rampaging mobs torched several vehicles and ransacked shops in the morning, forcing shopkeepers to down their shutters. At least six persons, including two police constables, were injured and taken to hospital. Police have arrested 61 persons for the rioting. Police lobbed nine teargas shells to disperse the riot ers and heavy bandobast has been deployed to prevent any escalation in violence.
