The Maharashtra government on Thursday informed the Bombay high court that the chikki supplied to schools in tribal areas in four districts under a Rs 206-crore procurement scheme by the women and child development ministry was unfit for human consumption.
This information was provided to the high court by the commissioner of Integrated Child Development Scheme Vinita Vaid-Singal in an affidavit. The affidavit was submitted before the division bench of Justice V.M. Kanade and Justice B.P. Colabawalla, which is hearing a petition filed by social worker Sandeep Ahire seeking a ban on manufacture and distribution of substandard chikki in schools in the tribal areas.
