A witness in the case against a doctor and two policemen, who are in jail for allegedly gangraping a 20-year-old BSc student in Bhilai in June 2014, allegedly attempted suicide Monday night.
The police said Sonal Mahar, a nurse at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Supela, attempted suicide by slitting her wrists while she was on duty at the hospital. “She was treated here and then referred to the Sector 9 hospital. She is in the ICU,” senior officers said, adding that the nurse is in a critical condition.
The officers and Mahar’s family, however, said that her suicide bid has no connection with the gangrape case and that she was under no pressure on that front.
