Bantwal police on Monday arrested Bhuvith Shetty, a resident of Bantwal, on charges of threatening writer K.S. Bhagwan through tweets after scholar M.M. Kalburgi’s death on Sunday.
According to Sharanappa S.D., Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, Mr. Shetty, said to be a Bajrang Dal activist, has been booked under Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation).
The police on Sunday had taken up suo motu case against Mr. Shetty after his tweets went viral in social media.
It said writers U.R. Ananthamurthy and Kalburgi died for mocking Hinduism and Mr. Bhagwan would be the next.
