A 15-year-old girl was raped and her mother molested by a carpenter, who goes under the name ‘Carpenter Baba’. The incident took place at Ovala, Ghodbunder Road, in Kasarwadavli area at Thane on the day of ‘Ananth Chaturdashi’. The accused ‘Carpenter Baba’ was called from Dharavi to cure the mother, who was suffering from ‘seizures’(fits). The accused raped the daughter inside the kitchen, under the pretext of curing ‘evil spirits’, and later asked the mother to accompany him inside the kitchen. When the mother realised what was happening she made him leave.
After the incident, the girl narrated the carpenter’s heinous deed to her mother. The mother then lodged a police complaint and had the ‘Carpenter Baba’ arrested.
