Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists on Saturday disrupted an All India Students’ Association (AISA) event here, against `Love Jihad’. They created a ruckus and manhandled female guests, including CPI-ML politburo member Kavita Krishnan.
The AISA began its convention titled `Prem se darr kisko’ around noon at Lucknow University . Minutes after Krishnan started speaking, the activists stormed the venue and tore down flags and banners.
AISA activists resisted and a verbal duel ensued. A scuffle broke out when an ABVP activist caught hold of Krishnan’s hand and tried to drag her. The activists objected to the topic and termed it as a “threat to Indian culture”. One of them told Krishnan: “khap panchayats hamara seena garva se ooncha karti hain, aap unke khilaf bol nahin sakte (khap panchayats make us swell with pride, we won’t let you speak against them)’. The university Proctorial board members intervened and separated the two groups.
