A group of students and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists on Tuesday disrupted an event at Hans Raj College here attended by actor Shah Rukh Khan.
The police detained several students who opposed the participation of Mr. Khan, who was there to promote his upcoming film Fan .
The protesters shouted slogans like “Shah Rukh go back.”
According to the police, Mr. Khan reached the venue around 5 p.m. and nearly eight to 10 protesters arrived at the venue carrying posters and shouting slogans. The police had to resort to using mild force and rounded up all the students. They were taken to the Maurice Nagar police station, from where they were let off around 7 p.m.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma said heavy attendance was expected and police deployment had been made accordingly and that they had seen some students carrying posters much before the scheduled timing thus pre-empting such an occurrence.
