Animal activists of People for Animals (PFA), along with the Solapur district police, raided an illegal slaughterhouse where cows and bullocks were allegedly being slaughtered.
Nine cows and three calves were rescued and around 1,200 kg of freshly chopped meat was seized by the police on Sunday .Two butchers were arrested on the spot and the FIR was lodged a day later.
“We had earlier received a tip-off that illegal beef trade was openly taking place in a 20ftx25ft room at Painter Chowk, Shaniwar Peth, just behind the Solapur district prison complex. So, along with the officials of Jail Road police station, Solapur city , we raided the place and managed to catch the butchers redhanded,“ said PFA activist Chetan Sharma.
