Squatting outside the gates of Parel’s Piramal Mills in May, more than 100 workers prevented trucks from
carrying away machinery. And with it, their futures. “The owners want to shut the mill and sell the land. But
we are fighting to keep our jobs”, explained Girni Kamgar Sangharsh Samiti activist Balakrishna Nar, who has been suspended by the management for his union activities.
