Violence in Anantnag after prayers

Protesters and security forces clashed in Anantnag, 60 km from here, on Friday over the beef ban in the State.
After Friday prayers, hundreds of the faithful took to the streets and hurled stones at security forces.
The stone-throwing continued till late in the afternoon in the south Kashmir town.
The protesters raised anti-India and pro-freedom slogans. Security forces used teargas shells and resorted to a baton charge to bring normality to the streets.
Several protesters and journalists covering the demonstration were injured.
In Srinagar, separatist leader Asiya Andrabi, who heads the women’s group Dukhtaran-e-Millat, was arrested a day after she was placed under house arrest on the outskirts of the city.
A close aide of Ms. Andrabi told The Hindu that a police team arrived at her residence at Soura in the morning and took her to the Rambagh police station.
Ms. Andrabi hogged headlines for unfurling Pakistani flags and singing the Pakistani National Anthem on two occasions since April, one on August 14 to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day.
