Muzaffarnagar: Cops fail to serve summons to accused 27 times

Meerut:Not even a single of the 27 summonses issued by a local court hearing a Muzaffarnagar riot case were served by cops to the high-profile accused, including union minister Sanjeev Balyan, local MP Bhartendra Singh, MLA Suresh Rana, Sadhvi Prachi, and seven others. Fol lowing this, the court issued bailable warrants against all the accused for not appearing before it and asked them to appear in court on November 2.
On August 31, 2013, Balyan, Bhartendra Singh, Sadhvi Prachi and others had allegedly addressed a mass meeting held at Nangla Mandaur. The leaders were booked for violating prohibitory orders and in citing communal tension by delivering inflammatory speech.
Counsellor of the ac cused, Chandraveer Singh said, “Police filed its charge sheet against 11 persons on November 1, 2013. On No vember 14, the local court is sued summons to all the ac cused for appearing before it. Since then, the court has issued 27 summonses, bu not even one accused re ceived it. Now the court has issued a bail-able warrant a couple of days ago.“
