Mumbai police commissioner Ahmad Javed has ordered an inquiry into the allegations that the Bandra cops detained and tortured two youths, asking them to leave India and go to Pakistan. Deputy commissioner of police (zone 9) Satyanarayan Choudhary will probe the incident.
Meanwhile, Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy has said he will take up the issue with his Maharashtra counterpart. Both the youths, who were allegedly assaulted, are from Kerala and residing in Mahim.
“As soon as I learnt about the allegations I asked DCP Choudhary to conduct a fair inquiry and submit a report at the earliest. Action will be taken on the basis of the report,” said Javed.
But on Sunday , it was becoming clear which way the probe will go. Cops say preliminary inquiries have shown that on Friday , the Bandra cops picked up Asif Shaikh and Danish Shaikh from opposite the Lilavati hospital after they had heated arguments with some locals. Policemen involved in the case now allege that one of the youth had “assaulted“ inspector Kedar Pawar in his chest at the police station, and this prompted them to assault the youths.
