Fifty students of Central University of Gujarat (CUG) gathered to condemn actions of University of Hyderabad that allegedly led to Rohith’s suicide
Protesting the suicide of 26-year-old Dalit student Rohith Vemula in Hydera bad on Sunday, around 50 Dalit students of the Central University of Gujarat (CUG) held a peaceful protest on Tuesday in Gandhinagar. The students gathered at the entrance of the institute to condemn the actions of University of Hyderabad whose actions allegedly led to the death of Vemula, who was pursuing PhD at the university.

Terming the 26-year-old’s suicide `institutional murder’, the students demanded a free and fair inquiry into the matter. Vemula was among the five research scholars who were suspended by the university in August 2015 and also one of the accused in the case of assault on a student leader.

Santosh Kumar, one of the students present at CUG said, “We are holding this protest to pressurise the government into There was never any clarity about the reason for suspension of Rohith Vemula and his mates.“ Students were seen holding banners with slogans like `Punish the culprits behind this institutional murder’, `Fight this Casteism and Fascism’ and `Shut down Brahminical universities before we kill ourselves’.
