Haryana gang-rape complaint

29, Feb 2016

Sonipat, Feb. 28 (PTI): A woman today registered a case of gang rape against seven persons, including her brother-in-law, days after allegations emerged of rape and molestation by Jat quota agitators near Murthal, Haryana.
“An FIR has been lodged against seven persons in connection with a gang rape on the basis of a complaint filed by a woman today,” DIG Rajshree Singh told journalists.
She said the victim alleged she was raped on the intervening night of February 22 and 23 and one of those who abused her was her brother-in-law. The complainant said she knew all of them.
Singh, who heads a three-member team of women police officers set up by the state government to probe the allegations of rape and molestation, said a “family dispute” could be behind today’s complaint. She said the victim wasn’t sure about the location of the crime but claimed she was raped in a building near Murthal. The woman said her 15-year-old daughter, who was with her, was not raped but her clothes were torn.
Earlier, three truck drivers had claimed they saw women being dragged into fields by the protesters. TV channels showed footage of garments worn by women strewn at some places.
Singh said the truck drivers “denied they had seen molestation or rape of women (at Murthal)”.
