Three men, all in their twenties, were booked under the National Security Act (NSA) in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly transporting beef.
Salim Mohammed, Irfan Qureshi and Danish Sharif were arrested in Vidisha town under the state’s anti-cow slaughter law after they were allegedly found carrying beef on February 11.
Vidisha Collector M B Oza said Monday that the truck carried nearly 10 tonnes of meat, including four tonnes of beef that were buried under three layers of buffalo meat, covered by ice. Police and right-wing activists had stopped the truck after being reportedly tipped off by someone in Bhopal.
Investigating Officer Madan Shrivastava said government veterinary doctors had confirmed the presence of beef in their ‘short report’.
Samples, meanwhile, were sent to the laboratories in Bareilly and Mathura for final report.
