17-yr-old beaten to death at remand home in Matunga

MUMBAI: A 17-year-old boy, who was allegedly assaulted by fellow inmates at a children’s remand home in Matunga more than 10 days ago, succumbed to his injuries at Nair hospital on Thursday.
The Shivaji Park police registered a case of murder and rioting against 12 inmates of the children’s home. The boy, Amir Ahmed, a resident of Powai, had been arrested for theft in April this year.
Amir was produced before a juvenile court and was later admitted to the children’s home. On May 17, f ellow inmates demanded drugs and alcohol from Amir and then assaulted him all over his body with bats, bamboo sticks and iron rods, claimed family members.
